Over 25 Years of Changing Lives, #Together

31st March, 2021 Read time: Two minutes

We believe in unlimited possibilities. For everybody.

Since 2018, we’ve supported over 90,000 adults across the East midlands and East of England, and thousands of school leavers in Nottingham alone. Combined with our other contracts Futures have supported over 1 million people lead more fulfilling lives in 25 years.

We started our journey in 1995 when we created as a result of a Government White Paper that moved Careers Services from the Local Authority . In 2002 we re-branded as Connexions centralising access to careers support for young people under one national brand, a year later, we also began delivering the Independent Advice and Guidance Pathfinder service.

In 2010 we became Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Futures, within 2 years we began delivering the National Careers Service across the East Midlands and East of England, supporting adults to gain employment and access training. WE opened centres in Mansfield and Leicester, providing hubs for this support.

2017 saw us launch Futures for Business, which allowed us to support businesses and their people through training and development. The following year saw the re-brand you see today: The Futures Group, Futures for You, and Futures for Business. And that brings us to now. We may have delivered many contracts over the years and had a few different names, but our sole purpose remains strong. We are a company that, simply put, supports people and businesses to develop, grow and be the best they can be through careers advice, training and employment support.

We all know the challenges 2020 and 2021 have brought, it’s meant thinking differently about how we help those that need us. We moved online, but watched the government’s updates closely as sometimes seeing someone face to face is really what’s needed. -

Don’t just take it from us, here are just a handful of the people we help every single day:

Jordan found himself in a very stressful situation, through no fault of his own. He was out of education and had nowhere to live, sofa surfing for months. “Without Ann-Louise’s help, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

Julie had had been unemployed for 5 years due to a health condition and admitted she had no interest or motivation to get in to work. “If I hadn’t have been pushed I would be in the same unmotivated position. The course totally changed my outlook and I can’t wait to start in my new role.”

Jon, from Newark, had been working in a high pressure senior management role in an engineering firm for many years before he was referred to Insight Healthcare and Futures. "It was killing me. I even considered suicide, which is something I thought I’d never say, but I really was in a dark place. I got myself to the doctor to seek help. The doctor gave me a leaflet and so I picked the phone up and called Insight Healthcare, and was given an appointment with Kate and then Esther. I can honestly say the two of them saved my life.”

Bridie had been unemployed for a while and attended a Futures recruitment day after being advised about it at her local JobCentre. With Futures she completed an administration course that we’d designed to support in Leicester City Council’s recruitment. Bridie secured an interview and then one of their Business Administrator roles.

“The way Futures operate is brilliant. They gave me an opportunity to change my career. Caroline and Kevin were outstanding; it massively built my confidence up.”

Marie felt she had left school without the skills she needed and hadn’t been inspired by learning. But thanks to Hayley and the team delivering adult education courses she’s completed English and after finishing her Health and Social care course, secured a job with the NHS. “If it wasn’t for Hayley, I would have given up. It feels incredible to have achieved something in such a short space of time.”

This is why we’re leading a change in career support that focusses on the whole person, not just the job applicant.
