Local Training Recognised for Empowering Adult Learners

9th June, 2023 Read time: Two minutes

Futures has received external verification from Ofsted in its first full inspection of the company’s adult training provision, resulting in an official ‘Good’ rating.

The training provision was first made available in 2017 and has seen thousands of adults access courses in subjects like health and social care and business services.

The company is steadfast in its commitment to supporting all learners and customers to feel empowered to achieve more from life. Recent training programmes have supported adults into jobs with Nottinghamshire Police Force as call handlers and Nottingham University Hospital as Health Care Assistants and Outpatient Administrators.

Ofsted said of the provision: “Learners look forward to their lessons and find them rewarding. They enjoy their studies and value the qualifications they will achieve. Tutors support them skilfully to develop their confidence. For example, learners who found interaction with others difficult, can now present to their peers. Learners describe the culture as ‘empowering’. Learning is brought to life well by the experienced teaching team.”

Based in Nottingham but operating across the East Midlands and East of England, Futures is a social enterprise that provides careers advice, training, employment and specialist targeted support to young people and adults.

Jennie Willock, Interim Chief Executive of Futures, said: “How we achieve outcomes for our learners is as important as the job outcomes for these learners themselves. To hear learners describe our culture as empowering makes me feel incredibly proud! Everything we do is about improving social mobility.

This year we have supported 84% of people on a Health & Social Care or Business Admin course into relevant roles with Nottingham University Hospital.  Ensuring that the work we do has an impact is at the heart of everything we strive for.”

Associate Director for Excellence, Daphne Saxelby, who led the inspection on behalf of Futures shared that: “We couldn't be prouder of the accolade this attributes to our people.

We know we have incredible teachers, so for them to have this backed up by Ofsted is wonderful. From our teaching staff to all of those who put things in place to support our learners to have meaningful learning experiences, we want to thank you. This success is yours.”
