Celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride Month at Futures

8th June, 2022 Read time: Two minutes

LGBTQ+ Pride Month is in full swing, and while Nottingham’s Pride Festival won’t be taking place until 30th July, there are plenty of ways to show your support and celebrate the impacts and achievements of LGBTQ+ individuals throughout the month.

Over at Futures, we’ll be showing our support through:

Volunteering

Thanks to our Volunteering Programme, each and every staff member is encouraged to spend one work day a year volunteering their time to a charity or cause of their choice. You can read about some other amazing staff stories in this post, but today, we’re focusing on the volunteering experience of our Assistant Content Producer, Luci.

Read more about her experience below:

I used my volunteering day to work with LGBT+ Service Nottinghamshire. Following an initial visit and chat with the manager, it became clear that support with social media and website updates would be a great help in promoting their services.

I spent a day writing and designing social media content for the charity - primarily to celebrate LGBT+ History Month, which was in February, but also to promote the sessions run by the service and to take part in awareness days such as Safer Internet Day.

Since then, I’ve agreed to continue volunteering with the charity and am hoping to take part in bigger projects in the future.

I'm so happy to be able to use my professional skills to help a cause that means so much to me, to reach more young people and make even more of a difference to those in the LGBT+ community.

Committing to Inclusion in the Workplace

Last year, our CEO Paul Price-Hazlehurst upheld his commitment to provide a safe and welcoming workplace by becoming certified in LGBT Inclusion in the Workplace.

If you’d like to further your own knowledge, free government-funded courses are available online, allowing you to learn more about LGBT history and culture, as well as debunking common workplace stereotypes and giving you the tools to provide a supportive work environment.

You can find out more and enrol on a free online course in LGBT+ Inclusion here.

Ensuring our LGBTQ+ Employees Feel Confident

We’re currently in the process of expanding our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion offering to our employees, including the introduction of networking groups for protected employees, including LGBTQ+ staff members. These groups will provide a safe space for employees to connect and speak freely about their experiences and help raise awareness within the company.

“We want our LGBTQ+ colleagues to be proud to be their authentic selves at Futures, where they can share their stories and enjoy working in an environment where they can flourish in their careers.” Jen Lovett – Associate Director of People and Culture at the Futures Group.
