Kya Took the Next Step with an Apprenticeship

Brierley Park Medical Centre are working with Futures for Business and Futures Employment Solutions to support their apprentice Kya to develop her professional skills and expertise in her busy role.

Liz Griffin, Practice Manager at Brierley Park, had previously worked with another apprentice provider but she felt confident to make a change and work with Futures after working with our Recruitment & Employment Manager Francine O’Sullivan. Liz was confident that Francine could find an excellent apprentice for the team and provide the mentoring and coaching she required to reach her potential and have an impact on the business.

Liz commented on apprenticeships, “the benefits are giving a young person the opportunity to work in a busy and demanding environment whilst being able to study for a recognisable qualification.”

Brierley Park Medical are a non-levy employer and received 90% funding for Kya’s apprenticeship meaning their contribution was just 10% of the total cost.

Kya Turner didn’t get the best of grades at school so decided to look for an apprenticeship to get her career started. At the time, she was working part time in retail and enjoyed interacting with customers but wanted to work somewhere she could also gain qualifications to benefit her for a lifetime. “Futures helped me and they were supportive from the start, keeping me updated regularly.”

“When we recruited Kya all pre-employment checks were done on our behalf. Knowing that Kya has a support network in place outside of the practice also helps as they can discuss any concerns with their mentor. I would have no hesitation in recommending Futures.”

Kya is now 9 months into her apprenticeship, has recently sat her Maths exam and will be sitting English at the beginning of 2019. At the end of her apprenticeship, she will also have a Level 2 Diploma in Customer Service,

“When I was accepted for the role Futures invited me to their office to explain how it would all work and what to expect. They made me feel comfortable and at ease to start my apprenticeship rather than worried and nervous.”

“Working in partnership with employers and developing long-term relationships is very important to me and it is wonderful to that Francine can work so closely with Liz, Kya and the team at Brierley Park Medical on their recruitment and future training and development plans” Abi Rae, Head of Business Partnerships, Futures for Business.
