Our Enterprise Adviser Network matches senior business volunteers with local schools and colleges to help create powerful, lasting partnerships between employers and careers programme providers. Enterprise Advisers take their passion for raising the aspirations of young people and combine it with their own skills and strategic thinking to help shape the careers provision in schools.

The Role

An Enterprise Adviser is a volunteer from business who works closely with the Head Teacher or Senior Leadership Team of a school or college to provide strategic support and uses their business experience and professional networks to help develop and implement an effective careers strategy that puts opportunities with local employers at the heart of a young person’s education.

Becoming an Enterprise Adviser is a way to support a local school or college to deliver world class careers guidance to their students, enabling young people to be prepared and inspired for the fast-changing world of work. Enterprise Advisers undertake strategic planning in a new context; developing skills in communication and strategy development.They build strong working relationships with a school or college and provide insight into their own organisation, industry and the opportunities available in the local labour market. Being an Enterprise Adviser means give back to the community you operate in while developing your local business network and gaining a better understand the education sector and the challenges faced by young people.

Our Enterprise Advisers come from different industry sectors and professional backgrounds, be that employed, self-employed or recently retired. As an Enterprise Adviser you can use your unique business experience to inspire young people and prepare them for when they leave education. Volunteering as an Enterprise Adviser can be incredibly rewarding.

You will be supported by a trained, full-time Enterprise Coordinator and a range of practical resources are available to help you in your role. You can also benefit from peer support from other volunteers and broaden your network of contacts further.

With your help, we can bring the right people together to strengthen our network and put young people's futures first.

Getting involved is simple

  1. Express your interest by contacting one of the local Enterprise Coordinators below.
  2. Discuss suitability and local need.
  3. If agreed, join the Enterprise Adviser Network and receive training and support.
  4. Complete a volunteer’s DBS check and be matched with a school or college.
