Futures hosts Well for Work launch event in Nottingham
Wednesday 24th November 2021 saw the doors of Café Sobar on Friar Lane close to the public as the room filled instead with local businesses eager to hear more about Well for Work – an ESF-funded contract that aims to support those with significant barriers into employment.
The day began with an introduction to Well for Work itself, with Contract Managers James Hicklin and Phillippa Marks detailing the benefits of the programme. Through the support given by Futures and our accompanying delivery partners, Well for Work is able to provide personalised and in-depth support to people who struggle with mental and physical health issues, money troubles, language barriers, and those who are concerned about their drug or alcohol consumption, among others.
The aim of the morning was to introduce Well for Work to businesses and display the benefits of becoming employers to those who have gone through the programme, as well as answering questions about how participants of the programme can be best supported in a working environment. To assist with this, we were honoured to have speakers present from all five of our Well for Work delivery partners.
Speakers from Double Impact, Autism East Midlands, Inspirative Arts, Framework, and the St Ann’s Advice Centre were able to share how they can support those in need in building their confidence, gaining new skills, and overcoming their barriers. With the support of the Well for Work programme, participants are able to enter the world of work feeling confident and supported.
We were also privileged to welcome Welsh and British Olympic gymnast Brinn Bevan, who spoke about his own mental and physical health struggles, and how important it was to him during that time to receive support from others.
Following the event, a job fair was held for members of the public to speak with local employers, find out more about the vacancies on offer, and learn more about the Well for Work programme.
