What are we looking for?
With the recent Government announcement of ‘A Plan for Jobs’ recovery package to support people in finding jobs, additional funding is being provided for the National Careers Service to provide individualised advice on training and careers. We are looking to supplement our team of professionally trained, highly skilled and experienced careers advisers providing this service. We welcome interested candidates to be a part of our talent bank of careers advice practitioners, qualified to at least IAG Level 3 to fill substantive roles for when work becomes available and/or be part of our flexible workforce with working hours to suit you. Recruiting now will help us to be responsive to customer demand when workload increases in the coming months.
As a Careers Adviser, the successful candidate will provide employability support and impartial information, advice and guidance (IAG) to meet customers’ needs, and support them into a job or learning. Support may be delivered face to face, via the phone or remote digital technology - on a one to one basis or in groups in a variety of settings including jobcentres, community organisations, education and learning establishments, etc.
The successful candidate will seek out local Labour Market Information, so customers gain from this local awareness of opportunities and trends. They will promote the service and establish close working relationships with local partners and organisations, to build the referrals coming through our service. It is essential for the candidate to have a ‘can-do’, proactive and flexible style of working.
We have COVID safety measures in place to protect the Health and Safety of our staff and have completed risk assessments as part of the safety assurance process.

Job Specification Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
- Have a minimum of Level 3 Careers Guidance qualification
- Ability to use IT effectively (MS Word processing, PowerPoint, databases, email, social/digital media and internet)
- Experience of providing quality IAG to a range of customers including those with barriers
- Excellent interpersonal skills (particularly effective communication, flexibility, adaptability and initiative skills)
- Experience in maintaining and developing excellent relationships with existing and new partners.
- Able to manage time and work in a target driven environment whilst maintaining quality standards
- Can effectively manage a caseload of customers to meet key performance indicators including customer satisfaction ratings and progression outcomes
- Effective administrative, organisational and planning skills
- A positive, approachable team player with a can-do attitude
